A throwback community pharmacy. They know you, know your history, always have quality and accurate help regarding meds you are taking and how to deal with them. The vaccine program runs very smoothly. Woodstock is very lucky to have Neal and the Village Apothecary. He is part of the community and cares deeply about it.

Village apothecary makes getting my vaccines so easy. Walk in, wait five minutes at most, get a surprisingly painless shot from an experienced practitioner. Why would I go anywhere else? Plus I am supporting my hometown local pharmacy and pharmacist who actually cares, answers the phone, And provides answers to your questions. A total win-win.

I don’t live in the area but had to pick up a prescription while in town and now I wish this were my local pharmacy at home. Difficult and long waits and chaos have become a given at places like CVS. Village Apothecary was the polar opposite—not just painless but a pleasant experience and better prices.

glp-1 faq's

GLP-1s, or glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, are a class of medications that mimic the natural GLP-1 hormone produced in the gut. This hormone plays a crucial role in blood sugar regulation, insulin secretion, appetite control, and digestion.

GLP-1s are primarily used for:

  • Type 2 diabetes management, helping regulate blood sugar levels
  • Weight loss and appetite suppression, slowing digestion and reducing hunger

After eating, the body naturally releases GLP-1 to help control blood sugar and digestion. GLP-1 receptor agonists extend the effects of this hormone, leading to:

  • Increased insulin production, which helps lower blood sugar after meals
  • Reduced glucagon release, preventing the liver from releasing excess sugar
  • Delayed gastric emptying, slowing digestion to help with longer-lasting fullness and reduced food intake
  • Appetite suppression, reducing cravings and overeating

There are several GLP-1 medications on the market, including:

  • Semaglutide (Wegovy, Ozempic, Rybelsus)
  • Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) – This also mimics a second hormone (GIP), potentially enhancing weight loss

semaglutide and tirzepatide are the most effective for weight loss, as they have been shown to result in significant reductions in body weight over time.

To begin treatment, complete the interest form or call Village Apothecary. A team member will guide you through the process, which includes:

  1. A brief phone or video consultation to discuss symptoms and eligibility
  2. Lab work (if needed)
  3. Completing a health questionnaire and consent forms
  4. A full consultation to determine the right treatment plan
  5. Medication delivery with all necessary supplies

Most follow-ups are conducted via telemedicine for convenience.

Patients need an active prescription for an injectable medication containing semaglutide or tirzepatide, allowing for substitution or compounded formulations.

GLP-1s are recommended for:

  • Individuals with type 2 diabetes or obesity
  • Those with a BMI ≥30, or BMI ≥27 with metabolic conditions
  • Patients who struggle with appetite control or weight loss

GLP-1 medications are not recommended for individuals who:

  • Have a history of medullary thyroid cancer
  • Have been diagnosed with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome
  • Have had pancreatitis
  • Are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding
  • Have severe gastrointestinal issues, such as gastroparesis
  • Have certain forms of kidney disease

Patients with a history of diabetic retinopathy, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, or hypoglycemia should discuss risks with their healthcare provider before starting treatment.

Common gastrointestinal side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting

Many side effects improve over time or with dietary adjustments.

Most patients experience appetite suppression within a few weeks, but significant weight loss occurs after reaching the full dose, which takes about two months.

  • Clinical trials show that semaglutide users can lose 10-20 percent of their body weight over 12-18 months, depending on diet and exercise habits.
  • The best results are achieved when combined with:
    • A balanced diet with lean protein and fiber
    • Regular physical activity
    • Adequate hydration and sleep
