2025 vaccine faqs

There’s lots of confusion this year about COVID-19 vaccines, eligibility, and insurance coverage.

Don’t automatically assume you do not meet the criteria.

Read on to get clarity, then get vaccinated!
Who is eligible? Can I get a COVID vaccine if I want one?

Nearly everyone is still eligible for a COVID vaccine. Here are the official criteria:

  • All patients 65+
  • Any patient 18-64 with 1 or more risk factors (listed below)

Estimates are 80% of the population are eligible, as most of us have 1 or more of those risk factors.

This is not an extensive list, but covers the major categories and gives some examples of these risk factors.

Speak with your doctor or one of our pharmacists at our clinic, as we’ll extensively review your medical history to determine eligibility.

☐ Diabetes (Type 1, Type 2 or gestational)

☐ Liver disease (e.g., cirrhosis, hepatitis, fatty liver)
☐ Neurologic conditions (stroke, dementia, spinal cord injuries)

Other Risk Factors

NO. Absolutely not. You need to “self-attest” i.e. check a box on the vaccine paperwork required at the clinic. No one will question this self attestation.

Insurance coverage in the past has been very good. Almost all insurances will cover the vaccine in full with no copay.

Some insurances do like to play games, restricting what kinds of providers can provide vaccines for their cardholders.

We will process all claims and let you know coverage status well in advance of receiving the dose.

Patients can contact us in advance of vaccination clinic dates and confirm coverage.

Yes, if you are uninsured you can pay for the vaccine out of pocket.

We are working out solutions to provide COVID-19 vaccines free of charge for the 2025-2026 season for uninsured or underinsured patients. Stay tuned.

We usually carry all brand COVID vaccines: Moderna, Pfizer, and Novavax. Early in the season, availability is subject to change.

We will have both the “old” version of the COVID vaccine and the new version called mNEXSPIKE, which is reserved for patients 65+ or high risk individuals.

Our pharmacists can advise you on the best choice for you.

Potentially, yes. We advise people to expect common adverse events after vaccination: pain/redness/swelling at the injection site, fever, headache, chills, and fatigue. These side effects start within 4 to 8 hours after immunization and can last anywhere from 24-72 hours after.

COVID-19 vaccines tend to have higher reported side effects for a little longer than other vaccines (i.e. closer to 72 hours vs 24 hours).

Novavax offers an “old-fashioned” vaccine that has lower reported side effects, and is a great option for people skipping vaccination due to the mRNA vaccine side effects.
