COVID-19 Vaccine Update

COVID-19 vaccine availability

Semi-Urgent Fall COVID-19 vaccine update due to chatter, social media posts, and the “news” reporting on the topic:

We’re nearing normal time for the release and approval of COVID vaccines. Unfortunately, as a result of our broken politics, RFK Jr—leading idiot, charlatan, and misinformation spewer—is the person responsible for this area of government. Their incompetence has and will continue to create confusion, chaos, apprehension, and ultimately, death.

Current COVID-19 Vaccine Access Status

Enough editorializing. Here’s what’s going on right now:

  1. Delays. FDA must approve COVID vaccines yet, and RFK Jr et al is requiring the manufacturers to add an additional step in the boxing and distribution process WAYYYYY late in the game. Normally Prescribing Information (PI – paperwork about the product) is sent separately from the doses, as the PI is updated at the last moment after approval, while doses are made and prepped for efficient distribution. Now, FDA wants the PI inside the box.
  2. Changes in long standing USA vaccine policy. There’s LOTs of chatter about making COVID-19 a risk-based vaccine ONLY, meaning only people with certain conditions or 65+ will be eligible to even get a dose.
  3. Confusion. People (wrongly) telling people to rush in and get vaccines now since they “won’t be available for them in the fall”
  4. Concerns over insurance coverage due to RFK Jr’s shenanigans (which may make it so some pharmacists in some states can’t even GIVE doses, as they are REQUIRED to have ACIP approval for any vaccines they give).

Here’s what we definitely know:

As a result of RFK Jr and Trump, the roll out will be delayed with limited doses available to a smaller subset of people.

BUT – here’s the good news:

  1. There ARE doses. Meaning the new formulations are waiting to be distributed to people. That can’t be stopped this year.
  2. There will be PLENTY of doses to go around, even if everyone who wanted one could go get one without restriction. Meaning there is no EMERGENCY and will NOT require rationing.
  3. I don’t think the “restriction” to risk-based will be a problem.

COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Conditions

Here’s a comprehensive list of conditions that will make someone eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, which about 80% of our population qualify for:

Chronic Conditions

☐ Heart disease (e.g., coronary artery disease, heart failure)
☐ Lung disease (e.g., COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis)
☐ Diabetes (type 1 or type 2)
☐ Kidney disease (especially chronic kidney disease, dialysis)
☐ Liver disease (e.g., cirrhosis, hepatitis)
☐ Neurologic conditions (e.g., stroke, dementia, spinal cord injuries)

Immunocompromising Conditions

☐ Cancer (especially if undergoing treatment)
☐ HIV/AIDS
☐ Organ transplant recipients
☐ On immunosuppressive therapy (e.g., chemotherapy, biologics, corticosteroids)

Other Key Risk Factors

☐ Obesity (especially BMI ≥30)
☐ Smoking (current or former smokers)
☐ Pregnancy
☐ Children under 5 years (for certain vaccines)
☐ Residents of long-term care facilities

Even if they implement a “high-risk” only policy for COVID-19 shots, it will be extremely difficult to litigate. How would any community provider be able to disprove your selection on a vaccine form?

COVID-1 Vaccine Access Summary

  1. If you are 65+ – you WILL get a dose
  2. If you are 18-64 and have a high risk for COVID-19 – you WILL get a dose
  3. If you are 18-64 and have no risk for COVID-19 – you WILL NOT get a dose (probably, if they keep ratf*cking the system).

LET ME REPEAT – THERE WILL BE AMPLE DOSES. IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE, YOU WILL GET ONE.

“SHOULD I GET A DOSE NOW IF I MAY NOT GET ONE IN THE FALL?”

  • Doses are available now for anyone who is not up-to-date with their 2024-2025 vaccine
  • Up-to-date means anyone 65+ or immunosuppressed, getting 2 doses for the year
  • Up-to-date means anyone 18-64 who are not immunosuppressed getting 1 dose for the year

If you are younger and healthy and have already gotten one dose for 2024-2025, you are up to date and there is no vaccine that can be given to you. Period.

IF YOU ARE READING THIS, CHILL. It’s my belief these dopes WANT to create anxiety and apprehension and chaos. It’s part of their game. DO NOT LET THEM WIN. Don’t even doom-scroll or pay attention to the media as they pump this into the cycle for the next week or two. Vote with your attention; pay no attention to these fools and their tomfoolery.
